History

Kite flying has been going on since 1749 "When Alexander Wilson of Scotland"attached a thermometer to a kite for recording tempratures of above the earth's surface. The present box shaped kites wre invented by Hargrave in 1893 and quickly become important for weather bureaus through out the world in their efforts to record the wind velocities and directions, pressure, humidity and temperature. Kites, however, are limited in their performance by weather conditions such as storms, high winds or lack of wind. Consequently by 1920, aeroplanes and balloons, because of their greater efficiency, begain to supplant kites for meteorological observations and by 1930 kites were almost entirely absolete for this kind of scientific investigation.

In Eastern Asia, kite-flying has been an extremely popular pastime from earlie st times. Chinese and Japanese kites are particularly colourful, often being in the shape of birds, fish or dragons. In America and Europe, kite flying is menerally confined to children although some adults, particularly in England, make a hobby of it.

Resons are unknown and when kite flying became a part of 'Basant' in Subcontinent, but this festival is mostly celebrated at the end of winter to welcome the spring season.
